School Careers Talks BWG regularly gives talks about careers in chemistry and pharmacy to year 12 and 13, most recently at Collyers in Horsham (8 talks to 200 students since 2008).

Pharmacy bus:This evolved from a chance conversation between BWG and Dr. Parastou Donyai. The idea was to integrate pharmacy students into the community by helping members of the public. With generous funding from the Earley Charity, and with massive help from Catherine Langran the ‘Pharmacy Health Check’ concept was launched in January 2015. In the first year, up to ten 4th year pharmacy students per session provided health checks in a community setting. At our first event 45 members of the public were provided with a comprehensive health check including: Blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol monitoring, body mass index and waste and hip measurements resulting in a personal lifestyle assessment from the students.

Outreach

Royal Society Exhibition 2015: Tahkur Babra from the group spent two days manning the University of Reading stand at the Royal Society Exhibition in July. He was rushed off his feet explaining to the public how healable supramolecular materials were able to regain their strength after fracture. Well done Tahkur!
