Barny Greenland completed his undergraduate and PhD degrees at Imperial College London, the latter under the guidance of the much missed Dr Joachim Steinke. During his time in London he worked on a range of projects including dendrimer synthesis and living polymerisation as well as producing a family of high loading supports for solid phase synthesis. Between 2007 and 2012 he worked as a PDRA at University of Reading with Howard Colquhoun and Wayne Hayes on several large, international grants in collaboration with Stuart Rowan (Now at Chicago), Michael Mackay (Delaware) and Fraser Stoddart (Northwestern). During this period his work focused on the design and synthesis of supramolecular healable materials. He also contributed to a diverse range of projects including hydrogels for water purification, redox responsive macrocycles, sensors for volatile explosives, polymer micelles and drug delivery agents.

In September 2012 he was appointed to a permanent position in the Reading School of Pharmacy where he established a research group in the field of functional materials.

In September 2017 he moved to the University of Sussex, where he is continuing his work on responsive materials. Current projects include the synthesis of redox active oligomers, degradable adhesives and sutures as gels for drug delivery. Please see thepublicationspages for more information.
